Submerge Festival On A Budget

November 17, 2016 - by Mike Pony

We’ve got a range of free or cheap events at Submerge Festival this weekend, so even on a budget there will be something for everyone to dive into.

Get Wet For Less

If you fancy a cheap swim, try our Friday night party Into The Deep at Loco Klub (£7). This diverse event offers live electronic music, boundary pushing performance art and an audiovisual installation in the disused tunnels under Temple Meads Railway Station.

Into The Deep features the premiere of a new work by rarely seen in the UK Italian interdisciplinary artist Francesca Fini, alongside local live electronic music platform CHK ONE, and Adam Basanta’s Room Dynamics. The immersive installation Room Dynamics surrounds you in pulsing lights and strange sounds, played live by the artist on Friday. Room Dynamics will then be accessible for the rest of the weekend as a free entry, looped installation (10am – 6pm Sat & Sun, Loco Klub).

On Saturday evening The Lost City (£6) features a gig from experimental electronic musician Fis, performed in complete darkness. Fis is supported by Scotland’s “premiere destructivist” FK Alexander, whose show took Edinburgh by storm this summer. She’ll be presenting a new work using a block of ice, a pickaxe and a strobe light.

On Sunday come and experience the audiovisual film EXIST (Free) by CUTS (featured on the soundtrack of Oscar nominated film Ex Machina). A looped video installation inside the Old Coroners Court, you can come and sit in deckchairs in the old morgue and immerse yourself in the dark, swelling noise and lush visuals.
